Integrated therapy for equine health, performance and rehabilitation
How I became a therapist and attained qualifications.
Since 2004 I have been interested in equine, animal & human anatomy and psychology when I had rescued a horse in poor conditions. I named her Serenity she was a beautiful 5 years 16.2 Warmblood jet black mare, white blaze with the most kindest personality, but not without her musculoskeletal and posture problems I would not be where I am today. Serenity suffered with some spinal, lumbar imbalances and abnormal foot conformation. I worked tirelessly to get her comfortable with reputable therapists and remedial farriery so that in time I could give her a quality of life she would of never had the chance to have .
One practitioner who was a Reiki healer introduced me to this vibrational, non evasive therapy that at that time had no clue to what was going on and how it worked. The first treatment Serenity had I will never forget, we allowed Serenity into the sand school where she could move freely if she wanted to while I watched in anticipation. Rachel gently laid her hands on Serenity and over her energy centres that are called Chakras to allow the energy to flow freely where she needs it most, After 10 minutes to all our surprise Serenity suddenly laid down and started to whine and scared the practitioner a little!
Serenity was reacting to the healing and letting go of psychological, emotional trauma, it was the most incredible beautiful experience that I had ever witnessed, As horses are so highly accepting to this energy, they accept the non-physical in its manifesting form and she laid down for about 20 minutes before springing back up and doing a cat like stretch and danced around the school! .
After this experience In 2004 did some research into Reiki healing and met a very well known Reiki master and animal communicator Alison Sanford. Through her I trained as a Reiki healer master and animal communicator to enable me to help aid and continue with the healing process and resetting her neurological and muscular pathways through power of allowing gentle vibrational hands on techniques. In 2005 I wanted to further my studies and trained with a Mc Timoney practitioner in equine massage where I was able to further my knowledge of equine therapies.
Sadly after 5 beautiful years Serenity was diagnosed with marrowbone cancer and passed away. Her legacy, spirit and transformation that I witnessed I will always will be grateful for, she became my mentor, taught me that if you quieten your own mind and listen with your heart, horses are the best teachers and are always willing to talk back to you.
After 30 years of riding and competing I retired in 2016 and in summer 2020 decided that I wanted to further my career in equine, animal and human therapy. I studied REBT therapy for humans to assist in reconditioning the mind so that emotionally and mentally I can help overcome psychological problems, self awareness is important to us as humans and we owe it to ourselves to understand the fundamental functions of what makes us who we are.
Same goes for horses. In the animal kingdom horses are instinctive prey animals, their brain /body functions are designed for survival, they are usually part of a herd with an alpha horse who protects and watches over the herd, their group consists of a hierarchy and their language is a silent voice that can be read only though body language. When humans intervene and the equine is domesticated not only does that horse need to sustain his survival and homeostasis state more pressure is put among them to learn our ways of thinking, training to be conditioned for our leisurely pastime as a riding companion. However in these circumstances horses can become distressed, misunderstood, suffer emotional, physical and mental problems but cannot detach from these unless we understand them and listen to their needs.
This is where holistic therapy, energy work and integrated techniques can help for horses and animals. I can give horses space in there neurological, emotional and physical well being allowing them to relax, to de-stress, and aid them in the healing and recovery process, give them a voice by using animal communication and naturally allow the bodily functions to rewind and aid in allowing the body to rewire to natural form where its needed the most.
